Types of Dental Implant Restorations
Separate from a dental implant, the dental implant restoration is the part of your procedure that replaces the missing tooth or teeth. After Dr. Mantovani places your dental implants, you will need to wait until your jaw heals, usually three to six months, before we can attach your dental implant restoration. In the meantime, we will provide you with a temporary restoration to wear so you can eat and smile while you heal. Whether you’ve lost one or several teeth, we offer several different dental implants restorations to choose from.
For patients who have lost a single tooth, we recommend a dental crown as your dental implants restoration. Dental crowns are made of porcelain or ceramic material and look exactly like a real tooth! To create your dental crown, we will take impressions after your implant surgery and send them to the dental lab. We will make your dental crown the same color as your adjacent teeth and ensure it matches the shape and size of the rest of your smile so that it looks completely natural. Once the dental crown returns from the lab, we will test the fit and make any final adjustments before attaching it to the dental crown. Once we attach the dental crown, it cannot be removed unless by us or another dentist.
Another dental implant restoration that can replace your missing teeth is dental bridges. Implant bridges can replace as few as three teeth up to an entire arch of teeth. Dr. Mantovani will recommend the best number of dental implants needed to support an implant bridge. Generally, to replace only three missing teeth, you will only need two dental implants. Similar to dental crowns, we will take impressions of your gums after placing the dental implants. The dental lab will then construct an implant bridge that matches the color, shape, and size of the adjacent teeth in your mouth. Once it returns, we will attach it to the implants permanently.
The last type of dental implants restoration we offer is All-On-4 Dentures. All-On-4 Dentures are dentures that need four dental implants for support. In some cases though, our patients might require six implants. After placing the dental implants, we will take impressions and have the dental lab create your dentures. We can also use dentures you already have if you wish. Once the dentures return, we will attach them to the dental implants. Patients can choose to have removable or fixed All-On-4 dentures.
