What are Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells made of ceramic or porcelain material colored and shaped to match your surrounding teeth. We can use veneers to do anything from covering minor flaws like chips, cracks, and stains to entirely reshaping your teeth. Some patients only require one or two veneers to completely transform their smiles. If you’re looking for the easiest way to achieve the perfect smile without going through several cosmetic dentistry treatments, porcelain veneers are a good option.

Dental Veneers Procedure

It only takes two appointments to give you a smile transformation with porcelain veneers. During the first appointment with Dr. Escoto or Dr. Mantovani, they will examine your smile and ask you about what you don’t like and what you want your smile to look like. If they determine porcelain veneers are right for you, they will begin by preparing your teeth for the veneers. This includes removing a thin layer of enamel from the teeth receiving veneers. The purpose of this step is to make room for the veneers, otherwise, they might stick out and not blend seamlessly with your other teeth. After removing the thin layer of enamel, we will take impressions of your teeth to send off to the dental lab.

While you wait for your permanent veneers to arrive, we will glue a pair of temporary veneers to your teeth. While wearing the temporary veneers, brush your teeth gently and try to avoid eating any types of foods that would cause the veneer to push out of place. You will wear temporary veneers for a few weeks until the permanent ones arrive. When you visit us for your second appointment, we will remove the temporary veneers, clean your teeth, and check the fit of the permanent set. We might need to make a few adjustments but once everything looks perfect; we will bond the veneers to your teeth. Once they’re bonded, you’re good to go! Expect your gorgeous new results to last for up to ten years.

Am I a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Most patients are good candidates for porcelain veneers. We only require that patients do not have cavities or gum disease. As long as you have good oral health, you’re likely a good candidate for porcelain veneers. We highly recommend porcelain veneers to patients who experience the following issues.

  • Stained or discolored teeth
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Minor misaligned teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Gummy smile
  • Gapped teeth
  • Worn-down teeth
  • Sensitive teeth

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Not only do porcelain veneers provide amazing results, but they come with a handful of benefits you won’t find with any other cosmetic dentistry treatments.

Stain Resistant – You never have to worry about your veneers looking dull or stained. The porcelain material cannot stain since it’s not porous.

Low Maintenance – To care for your veneers, you only have to treat them like your natural teeth. Brush, floss and visit us for bi-annual cleanings just like you always would.

Fast Results – With dental laminates, you only need two appointments to transform your smile. Getting orthodontics, teeth whitening, bonding, and other treatments can take years to complete.

Long-Lasting – Your dental veneers can last up to ten years before you need to replace them.
